Chris Evans as Movie Star Mike Tyler
The story unfolds against the backdrop of a high-profile charity gala attended by celebrities, billionaires and other influential guests.
Mike Tyler’s world is suddenly turned upside down when he is taken hostage by a radical warrior and her devoted followers. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the cult leader who selects Mike as a human sacrifice as part of her belief that the act can save the world.
The situation quickly pushes the gala into chaos, leaving its guests caught in an unexpected crisis where survival, conviction and belief take centre stage.
The unconventional premise allows Sacrifice to move between action, adventure, comedy and satire while examining the contrast between public performance and personal belief.
Romain Gavras Makes His English-Language Debut
Sacrifice marks Romain Gavras’s English-language debut. Known for Athena and his work in music videos, Gavras brings his distinctive visual approach to a story combining chaotic action with dark humour.
Speaking about the film, Gavras described cinema as his attempt to find meaning in a world that can simultaneously be absurd, beautiful, violent and full of grace. With Sacrifice, the filmmaker wants audiences to experience a similar combination of chaos and wonder.
The film also uses its celebrity-filled setting to offer a satirical look at wealth, fame and extreme beliefs.
