Netflix has revealed the first look of Unaccustomed Earth, a new family drama starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth in the lead roles. Inspired by Jhumpa Lahiri’s internationally acclaimed short story collection of the same name, the series explores love, family, loss, identity and belonging within a close-knit Indian American community.
Unaccustomed Earth will begin streaming on Netflix on December 17, 2026. Madhuri Shekar serves as the showrunner and writer of the series, with Freida Pinto playing Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth appearing as Amit.

Unaccustomed Earth Story
Set within the culturally vibrant lives of multigenerational families in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts, Unaccustomed Earth follows a close-knit Indian American community as its members navigate relationships, family expectations, longing, loss and belonging.
At the centre of the story is Parul Chaudhury, played by Freida Pinto. Parul is a wife and mother who gave up her college first love to respect her father’s wishes.
Her life changes when she receives a cancer diagnosis. Parul subsequently moves her family from India back to Cambridge, Massachusetts, the place where she once felt most at home.
Confronted by the limited time she may have, Parul decides to pursue the life and choices she previously sacrificed. Her decisions affect not only her immediate family but also the relationships within the wider immigrant community around them.
Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury
Freida Pinto plays Parul Chaudhury, the central character whose choices drive much of the story.
Parul’s journey connects the series’ themes of family obligations, personal aspirations, immigration and belonging. Her return to Cambridge following her diagnosis forces her to reconsider decisions made earlier in her life and their consequences for the people closest to her.
Siddharth Plays Amit
Siddharth stars as Amit in Unaccustomed Earth, joining Freida Pinto as one of the principal members of the ensemble.
The series also brings together actors including Indraneil Sengupta, Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig and Jayant Kripalani.

Ritesh Batra will direct the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
