One of the all-time blockbusters in Malayalam, “Lokah – Chapter One: Chandra”, is awash with awards. The film achieved great success with five awards at the Kerala Film Critics Awards 2025. While the award for Best Director went to the film’s director Arun Dominic, the film’s heroine Kalyani Priyadarshan also won the award for Best Actress.
While the award for Best Music Director went to Jakes Bejoy for Loka, the award for Best Makeup went to Ronax Xavier, who did the makeup for this film. The award for Best Debut Writer went to Shanthi Balachandran, who wrote the screenplay for the film. Kalyani Priyadarshan and Nazlan played the lead roles in the film produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films.
“Lokah”, which became the first Malayalam film to gross Rs 300 crore globally, also became an industry hit by collecting Rs 121 crore from Kerala. The second part of the film, which became a pan-India hit, has also been announced. Tovino Thomas is the hero of the second part of the film. Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan also appeared as guest stars in Loka.
After its theatrical release, the film received a great response and reception on OTT and pan-India level. In addition, “Lokah” gained attention by being included in the IMDB list of the ten most popular Indian films released last year. The film, inspired by the legendary story of Kalliyankattu Neeli, which is part of Kerala’s history, was a super success in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada languages apart from Malayalam. Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, Sarath Sabha, Nishant Sagar, and Vijayaraghavan also played crucial roles in the film.
