Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair was a visionary artist whose contributions to Malayalam literature, theatre, and cinema remain deeply influential. As a renowned actor, poet, and writer, he played a defining role in shaping the cultural identity of Kerala through his artistic excellence and commitment to meaningful storytelling. To honour his enduring legacy, the Thikkurissi Foundation was established – a platform dedicated to celebrating and nurturing the finest talents in the creative arts.

Founded in Thiruvananthapuram, the Foundation was officially launched during the historic World Cinema Centenary Celebrations held on November 25, 1995, at Tagore Theatre, by the legendary Nadigar Thilakam Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan, in the esteemed presence of Bharath Mohanlal and other distinguished guests. Since its formal registration in 1999, the Founda- tion has grown into one of Kerala’s most respected cultural institutions, honouring excellence in Malayalam cinema and theatre through its presti- gious annual awards.
