Amala was one of the popular Malayalam television serials aired on Mazhavil Manorama, featuring Varada as Amala Narendran (Ammu) in the title role. The family drama premiered on 17 June 2013 and was originally telecast from Monday to Friday at 8:00 PM.

The serial centred on Amala Narendran, also known as Ammu, a pure-hearted young woman who has to face several challenges and struggles for survival.

Amala’s life and her relationships with the people around her formed the core of the family drama. The title character was played by Varada, who became one of the familiar faces associated with the serial during its Mazhavil Manorama run.

Varada played the lead role of Amala Narendran (Ammu). Before becoming familiar to television audiences through Amala, she had appeared in Malayalam films including Sulthan and Valiyangadi.

She had also worked as a television presenter and anchored Patturumal on Kairali TV.

Her appearance as Ammu placed Varada at the centre of the long-running family drama and became an important television role in her career.

Along with Varada, Amala featured an extensive supporting cast of familiar Malayalam television actors.

KPAC Saji appeared as Narendran Thambi, while Sajan Surya played Arjunan. Jishin Mohan appeared as Hareesh and Kumarakam Raghunath played Vijayakrishnan.

The cast also included Beena Antony as Sudharma Vijayakrishnan, Maneesh Krishna as Sudeesh, Angel Mariya as Neeraja Vijayakrishnan, Bindhu Ramakrishnan as Mutashi, Subhash Nair as Jayan and Sabarinath as Devan.

M. B. Padmakumar and Adithyan Jayan were also part of the serial.

Mazhavil Manorama Serials During the Launch of Amala

When Amala premiered in June 2013, Mazhavil Manorama already had several Malayalam serials in its programming lineup.

Ival Yamuna was telecast at 6:30 PM, followed by Balamani at 7:00 PM. Bhagyadevatha occupied the 9:00 PM slot. The channel’s Malayalam musical reality show Indian Voice was also part of the programming schedule around this period.

The arrival of Amala at 8:00 PM further strengthened Mazhavil Manorama’s weekday entertainment lineup.
