Actor Nivin Pauly has officially joined hands with Kannur-based Redgod Studios to present his amazing animated short film Blu’s, which has already garnered huge attention and acclaim at film festivals around the world. As part of this, the trailer of the film was released today. The collaboration aims to bring this work of art from the heart of Kerala to a global audience.
The film is directed by Rajesh P. K, who has worked on global hits like Madagascar 3, The Croods, Trolls, and Venom. The background music for the film is composed by Sushin Shyam. The sound design by Shijin Melvin Hutton of Manjummal Boys fame and the stunning animation direction by Jeeth Parambendavida are also highlights of the film. Designed for a truly cinematic experience, Blu’s is mixed in Dolby Atmos. This stunning spectacle, made for the big screen, has been produced by Shibin KV and Jassar PV.
Nivin Pauly said that although it is a silent film, the message it conveys is huge and perfectly in line with his personal commitment to stand up for our environment. It is essential to bring a story like this, made with such dedication and quality, to the world. Nivin added that this is an art form from Kerala that the whole world needs to see, and he is incredibly proud to help share its voice with the world.
The film was born from the life journey of director Rajesh P. K. The film was inspired by director Rajesh P. K.’s childhood memory of a tree near a ravine in his hometown of Payyannur. When he moved to Bengaluru for work, he saw his childhood fears come true amidst the rapid changes. Fear of deforestation led him to return to Kerala, where his heart lies, and use his talents to tell an important story. Blu’s is that story, which he created entirely from his hometown of Kannur.
Since its arrival at film festivals, Blu’s has garnered considerable international acclaim. The film has won awards at various venues including Best 3D Short Film – Animation Film Festival, Italy, Best Animated Short Film – Indie Short Fest, Los Angeles, USA, Second Runner Up – Bengaluru International Short Film Festival, India, and Jury Selection – Lonely Wolf International Film Festival, London, UK.
The film has also been nominated at the prestigious Catalina Film Festival (USA) and Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology. It was selected as a semi-finalist at the Venice Shorts (Italy) and the 24th edition of the Miami Short Film Festival (USA). The film has also been selected for premiere events at major festivals such as Sitges-International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Spain), Spark Animation (Canada), 41st Boston Film Festival (US), and Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK).
