A biographical film based on the life of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is officially in the works. The project, which aims to bring the inspiring journey of one of Kerala’s most popular political leaders to the big screen, will be produced under the banner of the Oommen Chandy Foundation.
The film seeks to present an honest and heartfelt portrayal of Oommen Chandy’s life, public service, and political legacy, while also preserving the memories of an important chapter in Kerala’s history for future generations.
Writer Vinod Guruvayoor has been entrusted with scripting the project. According to Chandy Oommen, MLA and son of Oommen Chandy, several filmmakers had expressed interest in bringing his father’s life story to the screen following his passing. However, it was Vinod Guruvayoor’s unique approach and vision that convinced the family to move forward with the project.
Speaking about the upcoming film, Chandy Oommen said that the screenplay has the potential to introduce Oommen Chandy’s life and contributions to a younger generation that may not have witnessed his decades of public service firsthand.
He also revealed that script discussions are currently underway, while decisions regarding the director, cast, and other key aspects of the production will be made in the coming stages of development.
Vinod Guruvayoor stated that extensive research is being carried out for the project. Along with documenting well-known events from Oommen Chandy’s political career, the team is also collecting lesser-known stories and personal experiences from people who closely interacted with him over the years.
The makers describe the project as a comprehensive biopic that will explore not only Oommen Chandy’s political achievements but also his personal values, leadership qualities, and deep connection with the people of Kerala.
