ManoramaMAX has updated its upcoming titles list by adding Normal, an anthology film directed by Pratheesh Prasad. The film brings together three independent stories that explore situations many people considered “normal” during the COVID-19 lockdown period and examines their impact on different sections of society.
According to the official trailer description, Normal presents three stories centered around discrimination, social inequality, and the challenges faced by children during online education.
Three Stories, One Common Theme
The first story follows Ayana and Manchi, two young women in love. Their relationship faces opposition from both family and society because of their sexual orientation. As they struggle against discrimination, the lockdown creates additional challenges that further affect their lives.
The second segment revolves around Binoy, a college student who experiences humiliation from his landlord, Francis, during the lockdown period. While working on a mission with Francis, Binoy becomes a victim of deception and racial discrimination. However, the story also highlights his determination and resilience in confronting these challenges.
The third story focuses on Adhil and Ishan, two fifth-grade students whose education shifts online after schools close during the lockdown. Curious to learn beyond mobile-based virtual classrooms, the children attempt to explore knowledge in their own way. Their efforts, however, are challenged by the restrictions and expectations of the educational system.
Exploring Lockdown-Era Realities
Rather than presenting a single narrative, Normal uses three different stories to examine social conditions that became increasingly visible during the pandemic. The anthology touches on themes including acceptance, discrimination, racial prejudice, childhood education, and the long-term impact of lockdown restrictions.
With its socially relevant subject matter, the film aims to encourage discussion about issues that continue to exist beyond the pandemic years.
