Netherlands Thrash Sweden 5-1 in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group F Clash
Netherlands vs Sweden Match Stats

The Netherlands produced one of their most impressive performances of the FIFA World Cup 2026 so far, defeating Sweden 5-1 in a dominant Group F encounter at Houston Stadium. Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo starred for the Dutch side, scoring two goals each as Ronald Koeman’s men sent a strong message to their rivals.

The Oranje made a dream start, opening the scoring inside the first five minutes. Cody Gakpo delivered a precise low cross into the penalty area, where Brian Brobbey calmly finished from close range to put the Netherlands ahead.

Rather than protecting their lead, the Dutch continued to attack with pace and intensity. Their high pressing game and quick passing combinations caused constant problems for Sweden, and Brobbey doubled the advantage before the half-hour mark to make it 2-0.

Sweden showed signs of improvement after the hydration break and looked more threatening through Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak. Gustaf Lagerbielke thought he had reduced the deficit with a header from a set-piece, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

The Netherlands wasted little time after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Denzel Dumfries delivered a dangerous ball across goal following excellent work from Crysencio Summerville, allowing Gakpo to score from close range.

Gakpo struck again moments later with a low finish into the bottom corner after cutting inside the Swedish defence. The goal also became the 100th goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament.

Sweden eventually found a consolation goal when Alexander Isak released substitute Anthony Elanga with a perfectly weighted through ball. Elanga kept his composure and finished beyond Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

However, any hopes of a Swedish comeback were quickly ended as Summerville completed the scoring. The winger capped an excellent performance by adding a goal to his earlier assist, sealing a comprehensive 5-1 victory for the Netherlands.

The result strengthens the Netherlands’ position in Group F and highlights their attacking quality heading into the next stage of the tournament. With Brobbey and Gakpo in top form, the Dutch look capable of challenging the best teams at FIFA World Cup 2026.
