Both matches are scheduled for Saturday, 10 October 2026, with Bengaluru FC hosting the first fixture of the new season.

Bengaluru FC vs Sporting Club Delhi – 5:00 PM IST

Bengaluru FC begin their ISL 2026-27 campaign at home against Sporting Club Delhi, with Head Coach Pep Muñoz looking to make full use of the home advantage at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

The Blues previously registered a 2-0 victory over Delhi, with Sivasakthi Narayanan and Sunil Chhetri scoring the goals.

Bengaluru will be hoping to build on that result as they begin another campaign in front of their home supporters.

Muñoz has highlighted the importance of player fitness following a demanding pre-season and the international window.

Ryan Williams, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Ashique Kuruniyan have returned from international duty, making workload management an important consideration ahead of the opening fixture.

“We have to take care of our players,” Muñoz said, explaining that Ryan Williams’ participation would depend on his recovery.

Despite these considerations, Bengaluru FC have strengthened their squad with several overseas additions.

The new arrivals include Dutch defender Menno Koch, Portuguese defender Sandro Embaló, Spanish midfielder Borja Martínez, Argentine midfielder Manuel de Iriondo and Montenegrin forward Mihailo Perović.

Their presence will be important as Bengaluru adjust to the departure of Rahul Bheke to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Midfielder Suresh Wangjam, meanwhile, enters his eighth season with Bengaluru FC.

Sporting Club Delhi Aim for a Positive Start

Sporting Club Delhi enter the season opener under Head Coach Tomasz Tchórz, with a relatively young squad averaging 24.3 years.

The team has already gained competitive experience through the Durand Cup, which could provide an advantage in terms of match fitness and rhythm.

Delhi’s approach is expected to focus on energetic pressing, continuity and the development of young Indian footballers.

Brazilian forward Rodriguinho will be among the players to watch after scoring seven goals during Delhi’s run to the Durand Cup semi-finals.

Midfielder Lalrinliana Hnamte expressed confidence ahead of the opening fixture.

“We are very young but we are hungry for the trophy,” he said.

With Bengaluru looking to make home advantage count and Delhi eager to make an early statement, the opening fixture promises an interesting contest.

FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC – 7:30 PM IST

The second match of the ISL 2026-27 opening day will see FC Goa host Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.

The encounter will feature two former teammates in opposing coaching roles.

FC Goa Head Coach Gouramangi Singh and Chennaiyin FC Head Coach Clifford Miranda previously played together for the Indian national team and Dempo.

Both coaches will now look to guide their respective clubs to a positive start in the new season.

FC Goa have strengthened their squad with the return of Jorge Ortiz, while Spanish midfielder Álex Vallejo and winger Isak Vanlalruatfela provide additional options.

Gouramangi Singh has emphasised the importance of maintaining the club’s competitive identity.

“As a club, we want to stay true to our identity of being a competitive team. We want to play with a lot more clarity. We want to control games, and be comfortable with and without the ball,” he said.

The FC Goa coach also stressed that the opening fixture should be viewed as a contest between the two clubs rather than a personal battle between the coaches.

“Saturday isn’t about Gouramangi and Clifford. It is about FC Goa and Chennaiyin — two very good teams and we’re going to get a competitive game,” he added.

Chennaiyin FC Look to Improve Under Clifford Miranda

Chennaiyin FC enter the new campaign determined to improve after finishing 13th in the previous season.

The Marina Machans have made several changes to their squad, including the additions of Ayush Dev Chhetri, Brison Fernandes and former FC Goa midfielder Glan Martins.

French attacking midfielder Madih Talal and Brazilian forward Ramon Tanque have also joined the squad to strengthen Chennaiyin’s attacking options.

Head Coach Clifford Miranda believes consistency throughout the season will be more important than the result of the opening fixture.

“Beating Goa won’t win us the league and losing to Goa won’t lose us the league. It’s about being consistent over the 24 games,” Miranda said.

The previous meeting between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC ended in a 1-1 draw in Chennai.

Irfan Yadwad opened the scoring before Sandesh Jhingan secured a late equaliser for Goa.

With both clubs introducing new players and tactical approaches, the Fatorda encounter will provide an early indication of their preparations for the season.

ISL 2026-27 Returns With Home-and-Away Format

The new Indian Super League season marks the return of the full home-and-away round-robin format.

A total of 13 clubs will participate in the competition, with 163 matches scheduled across the campaign.

The opening-day fixtures will be followed by further league matches as clubs compete to establish their positions in the standings.

The return of home-and-away fixtures also gives supporters more opportunities to watch their favourite clubs at their home stadiums.

For Bengaluru FC and FC Goa, beginning the season at home provides an opportunity to secure valuable early points.

Sporting Club Delhi and Chennaiyin FC, meanwhile, will be looking to overcome their away challenges and begin the competition with positive results.
