Idea Star Singer Season 3, also known as Idea Star Singer 2008, was the second season of Asianet’s popular Malayalam musical reality show. Following the success of the previous season, Asianet continued its search for talented young singers from Kerala, combining competitive singing with entertainment.
The show was telecast Monday to Friday from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Asianet. Singers in the 15–30 age group participated in the selection process, with 85 contestants appearing in the audition round and 50 progressing to the competition.

Idea Star Singer 3 on Asianet
Following the strong response to Idea Star Singer 2007, Asianet launched its successor with another extensive search for promising singers.
The objective of Idea Star Singer was to identify talented performers who could connect with television audiences through a combination of singing ability and entertainment.
A total of 85 contestants participated in the audition round, from which 50 contestants were to be selected for the next stage of the competition.
Suresh Gopi Inaugurated Idea Star Singer 3
Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi inaugurated Idea Star Singer 2008 and also performed a song for viewers during the launch.
The inaugural programme featured performances from prominent names in Indian music, including M.G. Sreekumar, Ouseppachan, P. Unnikrishnan and L.R. Eswari.
The programme began with a prayer and song performed by Najim Arshad, who had emerged as the winner of Idea Star Singer 2007. The new season’s competition followed the inaugural celebrations.
Idea Star Singer 3 Judges
The judging panel underwent changes for the 2008 edition.
Ouseppachan and P. Unnikrishnan occupied two positions on the judging panel, while another position was reserved for a weekly guest judge.
The combination allowed contestants to perform before established personalities from the music industry as they progressed through different stages of the competition.
Two Mega Prizes for Idea Star Singer 3
One of the notable features announced for Idea Star Singer 2008 was the introduction of two major prizes, with separate prizes planned for a male and a female contestant.
Each winner was set to receive an apartment from Confident Group, located either in Thiruvananthapuram or Dubai City. At the time, each apartment was stated to have a value of around ₹1 crore.
This significantly raised the stakes of the competition as the selected contestants competed through the different musical rounds.
Remya Raveendran and Devi
Remya Raveendran and Devi were associated with the programme as it moved into the 2008 edition, continuing the presentation of one of Asianet’s major reality television formats of the period.
Idea Star Singer 2008 followed the successful 2007 edition and helped continue the Star Singer franchise on Malayalam television, providing a major television platform for emerging singers from Kerala.
