A Malayalam film about screen addiction in children and the emotional impact of mobile phone abuse – “E Valayam” – will be released on the 13th of this month. The film, which depicts the disastrous effects of screen addiction in children and adolescents, is mainly aimed at school students and their parents.
Directed by Revathy S. Varma, “Ee Valayam” is being released in over 60 theatres in Kerala on the 13th of this month by GDSN Entertainments. The film’s theme is one of the most talked about mental health issues of the present time. The film is coming to the audience at a time when mental health experts are giving serious warnings about the emotional consequences of digital addiction. “Eevalayam” is India’s first film about a mental illness called nomophobia by experts.
Newcomer Ashley Usha is the heroine of E valayam. The film also stars Renji Panicker, Nandu, Muthumani, Shalu Rahim, Sandra Nair, Akshay Prashanth, Sidra and Madhav Ilayidom. It effectively captures the emotional struggles of teenagers suffering from screen addiction and the helplessness of their parents. Written by Sreejith Mohandas and cinematography by Aravind Kamalanand, the film has two songs written by Rafeeq Ahmed and composed by Jerry Amaldev, and another song written by Santosh Varma and composed by AB Salvin Thomas.

Considering the social and educational importance of the film, the state government has granted entertainment tax exemption. The Central Board of Film Certification has approved the film in the children’s category and the general education category. Producer Joby Joy Vilanganpara said that he hopes this will help reach children and educational institutions.
As part of the release, a special preview screening will be held in Kochi on June 13 with the participation of teachers, mental health experts, parent groups and educationists.
