Disney+ Hotstar – Hotstar Mobile Application Has Been Rebranded, Official OTT Application of Star Network

Hotstar, one of India’s popular streaming platforms, was rebranded as Disney+ Hotstar following the integration of Disney’s entertainment catalogue with the service. The updated application introduced new branding while continuing to provide television programmes, movies, sports and original content from Star Network channels.

For Malayalam audiences, Disney+ Hotstar became an important digital destination for Asianet programmes, Malayalam serials, movies and reality shows. The service was available through mobile applications and other supported streaming devices.

Latest Update: Disney+ Hotstar in India has since been replaced by JioHotstar. The current platform brings together entertainment from JioStar’s television networks, movies, originals, regional programming, reality shows and other streaming content.

Disney+ Hotstar and Malayalam Content

Disney+ Hotstar offered a large collection of Malayalam entertainment, particularly programmes telecast on Asianet. Viewers could use the platform to catch up on television serials and other programmes after their television broadcast, while eligible subscribers also received access to selected content according to their subscription plan.

Popular Asianet programmes available through the service over the years included Thoovalsparsham, Santhwanam, Kudumbavilakku, Amma Ariyaathe, Koodevide, Paadatha Painkili, Sabaritheertham, Start Music Season 3, Palunku, Daya, Sasneham, Mounaragam and Valkannadi.

Disney+ Hotstar was also closely associated with Bigg Boss Malayalam. During Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5, hosted by Mohanlal and telecast on Asianet, viewers could access 24×7 live streaming through Disney+ Hotstar.

Today, JioHotstar continues as the streaming destination for Bigg Boss Malayalam, including the current digital features associated with the programme.

JioHotstar has now expanded internationally with its launch in the UK, Canada and Singapore. The international platform offers 160,000+ hours of entertainment across 12+ languages, including programming from JioStar television channels such as Asianet, Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, Star Jalsha and Star Pravah, taking Indian and regional entertainment to audiences in these markets.
