Thariode Now Streaming On Amazon Prime Video – New OTT Release Films
The documentary film Thariode, directed by Nirmal Baby Varghese, has now been released on Amazon Prime Video India. Earlier, the film had already begun streaming on Prime Video outside India. The documentary explores the gold mining history of Wayanad, particularly in the Thariode region and surrounding areas during the 19th century. The film is narrated by National Award-winning actor Aliyar, and produced by Baby Chaitanya under the banner of Casablanca Film Factory.

Released in June 2022 on the American OTT platform Diverse Cinema, Thariode later became available on Amazon Prime Video in 132 countries outside India from September 2022. The film began streaming in India on October 30.

Thariode has received wide recognition across India and abroad, winning several prestigious honors such as the Best Educational Program at the Kerala State Television Awards 2021, Best Short Documentary and Best Director (Short Documentary) at the Seventh Art Independent International Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Hollywood International Golden Age Film Festival, Best Short Documentary at the Aasha International Film Festival, and the Jury Award at the Reels International Film Festival. The documentary was also a Finalist at the Continental Film Awards in the Best Asian Short Documentary category and a Semi-Finalist at the I Films International Short Film Festival in Maharashtra.
In addition, Thariode has been officially selected for numerous international film festivals, including the Kosice International Monthly Film Festival in Slovakia, Lift-Off Global Network Sessions in the United Kingdom, Standalone Film Festival and Awards in Los Angeles, Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival in Germany, One Earth Awards in Bangalore, Festival del Cinema di Cefalù in Italy, and Lane Doc Fest in the United States.
A book version of the documentary, written by the director Nirmal Baby Varghese, has also been published and is available on Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
