Manichitrathazhu, one of the most celebrated classics in Malayalam cinema, is returning with a new chapter on television. Sun Surya TV is bringing Manichitrathazhu as a new Malayalam serial, extending the world and mystery associated with the iconic movie.

Rather than recreating the events of the original film, the television series introduces a new story connected to Nagavalli, Nakulan, Ganga and the Madampalli family. The central characters of the new chapter are Pallavi, the daughter of Nakulan and Ganga, and her husband Kiran.

A New Chapter of Manichitrathazhu

The new Manichitrathazhu serial does not simply repeat the story familiar to generations of Malayalam movie audiences. Instead, it explores hidden chapters surrounding Nagavalli‘s life, love, sacrifice and history.

The story moves forward through the next generation.

At the centre is Pallavi, the daughter of Nakulan and Ganga, along with her husband Kiran. Their arrival at Madampalli leads to the symbolic reopening of the Manichitrathazhu and once again brings the mystery of Nagavalli into the family’s life.

However, what awaits Pallavi is not merely another story of revenge.

Nagavalli Returns Before Pallavi

Nagavalli, who once emerged from the mysteries surrounding the Thekkini, now appears before Pallavi. But the story she has to tell is different.

Instead of revealing a tale centred entirely on vengeance, Nagavalli begins introducing Pallavi to the forgotten story of her own life. The first traces of this hidden past emerge through Pallavi’s dreams.

The journey eventually takes Pallavi and Kiran to Thanjavur, where they discover a mysterious book.

What is written inside changes the direction of their lives.

The Hidden Love Story of Nagavalli

The book discovered in Thanjavur is not simply a historical record about a Devadasi. Its pages contain Nagavalli’s heartbreaking love story.

As Pallavi begins discovering what happened centuries ago, the boundaries separating history and the present gradually become unclear.

Is everything Pallavi experiences real?

Is it an illusion created by the mind?

Can psychology explain what is happening, or are the dark shadows of history still alive?

As these questions emerge, Madampalli once again becomes unsettled.

Relation Between Manichitrathazhu Serial and the Movie

The most important connection with the original Manichitrathazhu movie comes through Nakulan and Ganga.

The television story introduces Pallavi as their daughter, effectively moving the narrative into the next generation. Through Pallavi, the series returns to Madampalli while opening a previously unexplored chapter associated with Nagavalli.

The serial therefore approaches the familiar Manichitrathazhu world as a continuation rather than a retelling of the original events.

The presence of Nagavalli, Madampalli and the Thekkini provides the connection to the familiar world, while Pallavi and Kiran take the story forward.

History, Psychology and Mystery

The new serial combines several elements within its narrative, including Devadasi culture, the royal heritage of Thanjavur, ancient dance traditions, psychology, history and mystery.

Importantly, Manichitrathazhu is not presented simply as a horror serial.

At the heart of the story is a larger mystery surrounding Nagavalli herself. Is what is unfolding the revenge of a lost love, or is it the final attempt of a woman silenced centuries ago to make her true history known?

The answers lie in the forgotten pages of Nagavalli’s past.

Asha Sharath, Meera Nair and Kottayam Ramesh in the Cast

The television adaptation brings together actors from both Malayalam cinema and the mini screen. Asha Sharath, Meera Nair and Kottayam Ramesh are among the prominent names confirmed for the Manichitrathazhu serial.

More actors and their respective character details are expected to become part of the story as Sun Surya TV introduces the new world of Pallavi, Kiran and Nagavalli.

With the doors of Madampalli opening once again, Manichitrathazhu begins a new chapter—not by repeating the past, but by searching deeper into the untold life, love and history of Nagavalli.
