Amrita Film Awards To be Telecast on May 31st , June 1st & 2nd


Film enthusiasts are in for a triple treat, as the entertainment filled reels of this year’s Amrita Film Awards will be played out over a 3 day period on May 31st ,June 1st &2nd from 7 pm in the evening to give them a long weekend of prolonged pleasure and amusement. Stardust was sprinkled all over the venue as the showbiz glitterati and Mollywood jetset turned out in full force on the night of the annual visual extravaganza that was held to confer accolades on the deserving in the movie industry.

Rubbing shoulders with these peddlers of fantasies are moghuls who have been conferred celebrityhood for phenomenal accomplishments in other fields: Metro man E.Sreedharan, cricketing icons Kapil Dev and VVS Laxman and Abhilash Tomy the 1st Indian to sail solo,non stop around the world, all of whom have been bestowed with Amrita TV’s Awards for Outstanding Contributions. This special segment will be shown on May 31st from 7-9 pm.

The glittering ceremony was given added sparkle by engrossing dance and song performances by a magnificent parade of celebrities from playback and films, featuring Lucky Ali, the handsome Bollywood singing star who rendered his Filmfare Award winning number ‘Na tum jaano na hum’, his first Malayalam attempt in Amen ‘Vattoli’ amongst others; Haricharan the upcoming young sensation who is making rapid strides in Tamil and Malayalam, showed off his amazing talent with ‘Thuli Thuli’ from Paiyaa, his Malayalam foray ‘Kinginikkatu..soniye’ etc; Anushka Manchanda the V- Channel VJ -turned singer currently making waves in Tamil and Hindi film music gave a run through of her best songs ; Remya Nambeeshan won over the audience with her sensual ‘Andalonde’; Vijay Yesudas impressed with his soulfully stirring ‘Mazhakondu mathram’ from Spirit and Vineeth Srinivasan sang his hugely popular ‘Anuragathan velayil’. In between there were sizzling dance numbers from Isha Talwar; sultry medleys from Suja Naidu and group and delightful moves from Iniya, all spiced up by side splitting comedy skits that set off laugh riots in the venue.

For his decades long contribution to the Malayalam Film Industry as director, script writer and lyricist, Sreekumaran Thampi has been bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the awards line-up, the young turks have made their mark, but the seasoned campaigners more than held their own : Mohanlal who proves that he is streets ahead of the rest, literally living the role of an alcoholic in Renjith’s satirical ‘Spirit, is crowned the Best Actor while Kavya Madhavan’s effortless portrayal of a sweet naïve housewife in ‘Bayuttiyude Namathil’ has been the unanimous choice for Best Actress. For his mint fresh perspective in narration in Ayalum Njanum Thammil and Diamond Necklace, Lal Jose is adjudged the Best Director .Biju Menon cements his place under the sun with the Best Supporting Actor accolade for his understated humour in in ‘Mayamohini’ and measured acting in ‘Ordinary’ as Lena climbs to cinematic fame as Best Supporting Actress for her efforts in ‘Ee Adutha Kalathu’. Bobby and Sanjay whose original style have them cruising in a world of superlatives, get the nod for Best Script Writers; Pratap Pothan who took the villainous route for a comeback as a sadistic rapist in ‘22 Female Kottayam’ is the Best Villain of the Year. ‘Vijay Yesudas books himself a berth in the hall of fame with the Best Male Singer prize. Remya Nambeesan’s who proves that there is more to her than just acting, has been voted the Best Female Singer for her husky crooning for ‘Ivan Megharoopan’ and ‘Bachelor Party’. The youth brigade has cornered its share of awards too: Fahad Fazil who riding high with a series of good films is the Youth Icon of the Year; Dulquar Salman who rode to stardom on the back of 2 films is the Best New Face of the Year(Male) and Namita Pramod, the child actress who blossomed into heroine is the Best New face (Female) of the year.

As this year’s blockbuster edition of Amrita TV’s Film Awards play out this weekend before a sell-out viewership across the State, the audience would take home snapshots of excellence of an Awards function, that was choreographed to perfection.
