A gripping new narrative of love, history, psychology and mystery takes the legendary story beyond the original.
One of the most iconic classics in the history of Malayalam cinema, Manichitrathazhu (മണിച്ചിത്താഴ്) , is all set to return to audiences in a completely new avatar as a television series on Sun Surya.
The new series does not revisit or recreate the events of the original story. Instead, it takes the narrative forward into an unexplored world, delving deep into the untold chapters of Nagavalli’s life, love, sacrifice and history.
The story centres around Pallavi, the daughter of Nakulan and Ganga, and her husband Kiran. Their arrival at the legendary Madampally sets in motion a series of mysterious events, once again opening the doors of the Manichithrathazhu.
But what emerges from the Thekkini this time is not simply a story of revenge.
Nagavalli appears before Pallavi, but her story takes an unexpected turn. The fragments of her past begin to reveal themselves through Pallavi’s dreams, eventually leading them to Thanjavur.
There, they discover an ancient book that becomes the key to an extraordinary journey. The book does not merely document the history of a Devadasi—it reveals the deeply moving and tragic love story of Nagavalli.
As Pallavi turns the pages, the distinction between the past and the present begins to disappear.
What is reality? What is illusion? Is it psychology at work, or are the dark shadows of history still alive?
Once again, Madampally becomes a place of unease and mystery.
The series brings together diverse elements including the Devadasi tradition, the royal heritage of Thanjavur, classical dance traditions, psychology, history and mystery, creating a narrative that explores much more than conventional horror.
