Chumbak follows five families living in a contemporary Indian neighbourhood where everybody knows everybody. Their lives are so closely connected that the neighbours function more like an extended family.
A minor problem in one household can quickly become a colony-wide issue. There is always someone nearby with an opinion, unsolicited advice, practical help or an excuse to visit.
The series finds comedy in familiar situations involving marriage, parenting, celebrations, family arguments and neighbourhood gossip.
Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah play Mickey and Twinkle Oberoi. The couple are hopeless romantics who appear to live in their own cheerful world.
Their affectionate relationship contributes a light-hearted dynamic to the neighbourhood and contrasts with the complications faced by the other families.
Sumeet Vyas and Manasi Parekh portray Aditya and Priyanka Khanna. They initially appear to be a calm and spiritually balanced couple, but their supposedly peaceful relationship is far from quiet.
The difference between their public image and domestic reality creates several humorous situations.
Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi and Amyra Dastur play Mumma Gulshan, Freddy and Hutoxi Taraporewala.
Described as the neighbourhood’s Parsi Bermuda Triangle, their family dynamics are unpredictable and entertaining. Their interactions add another distinctive layer to the colony’s everyday chaos.
Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani appear as Rajni and Kuku Merchant. The couple constantly disagree and argue, even though they remain deeply in love.
Their relationship captures the affection, irritation and companionship found in long marriages, making them among the show’s most recognisable characters.
Sumeet Raghvan and Sandeepa Dhar play Dharmendra and Kiran Kejriwal. Their unusual relationship takes the familiar phrase “pati, patni aur woh” into unexpected territory.
Their storyline is expected to contribute some of the series’ most unconventional relationship comedy.
The series features Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Sumeet Raghvan, Sandeepa Dhar, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Vyas, Manasi Parekh, Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi, Amyra Dastur and Atul Kumar.
Each performer represents a different personality within Chumbak Colony. Their characters may be eccentric, but their relationships and everyday problems are designed to feel familiar to Indian families.
The trailer offers an introduction to the five families and the relationships connecting them. Family disputes, marital quirks, parenting challenges and neighbourhood interference become sources of comedy.
The central idea is simple: when neighbours become family, every day brings a new commotion. The series aims to offer easy-going entertainment that families can watch together.
Chumbak will premiere exclusively on Netflix on September 10.
The series is written and directed by Aatish Kapadia and produced by Jamnadas “JD” Majethia and Aatish Kapadia under Hats Off Productions.
