Midhun Wraps Up Title in Amtita TV’s Super Dancer-2 Finale

Midh swept aside the opposition, to tango his way to the title at the magnificent Grand Finale of Amrita TV’s Super Dancer-2 which will be telecast on  March 14th from 6.30 to 9.30 pm.

He took possession of the crown  and the rich haul of  Rs. 5 lakhs  that went with it  from cine actor and youth icon Kunchakko Bobban who was  the Chief Guest of the Finals. The 1st runner up  Sreejith pocketed his prize money of Rs.  3 lakhs from Jyothirmayi, while Reema Kallingal gave away the prize  of Rs. 1.5 lakhs to the 2nd runner up Dilshah.

The sultry Sunday evening was throbbing with pent-up excitement as the zero hour approached and the thrilling denouement of the premiere dance reality competition got under way.

In the dynamic encounter under the arc lights the finalists – Dilshah, Gayathri, Midh and Sreejith – surrendered body and soul at the alter of the Gods of Dance and gave the performances of their lives.

Watched over by the High Priestess of choreography, Kala Master and the Young Turk Prasanna Master, the four contenders  laid forceful claims on the crown with a series of astounding performance, each better than the next.

In the Solo round, Dilshah gyrated to the dulcet rhythms of the melodious Hindi hit ‘Ek Do Theen’ ; Gayathri chose a medley to give full rein to her talents; Midh started off with  his forte, a western  that blended into a contemporary dance mid way through ;Sreejith wowed one and all with his thunderous Shiva Thandava.   The Duet in which they paired up as couples, and the Group Round where all danced in tandem, were mesmerizing medleys.

In the absorbing tussle for the title  with none willing to give a quarter,  the combative Mith stood his ground with performances that outclassed the rest. When the judges declared their final verdict,  Midh had delivered  the coup de grace to the rest, to be installed as the next Super Dancer .

As Midh earned his  spurs in style, the Grand Finale which had unfolded like  a well choreographed dance, put the shutters on another well executed reality show from Amrita TV.

Amrita TV’s  broadcast journalism based reality show, Best Citizen Journalist-2 which wrested the  prestigious Annual  State Award for the Best Current Affairs TV show gets ready to commission the  next generation in the news series, Best Citizen Journalist-3.

The trail blazing programme which marks the return of the Citizen Journalist to its third successful season, endeavors to discover and nurture talent in the field of TV journalists from non-journalists, who have a flair for investigative reporting but have no formal training in the field.

The contest which discloses a world of  possibilities to citizen journalists hopefuls, is open to anyone over the age of 18, with no academic credentials in journalism or experience in the fourth estate .

The competition gives the aspiring reporters who are newsmen at heart, a chance to unleash their basic  journalistic instincts and  champion some burning issue and  thus make their mark in  electronic journalism.

Selected competitors will  have to submit their best ‘scoop’ for verification; if approved the contestant will be expected to translate their paper report to film  with the help of a full fledged camera crew which will be provided by the channel.

Super Dancer-2  Glides  Daintily To A Glorious Conclusion

Bringing the curtains down on delightfully choreographed weeks of  dancing pleasure, Amrita TV’s Super Dancer-2 sashays into the decisive stage of the Grand Finale that will be held on March 7th at the St.Joseph’s School Auditorium from 6pm.

Super Dancer-2 unveiled an amazing  canvas   that depicted a variety of dance forms from classical, semi-classical, folk etc to contemporary and western.

Occasionally it delved into the realms of  cinema by including timeless romantic duets, selections from the disco decade of the 90’s and unforgettable classics from the black & white era.

The programme veered into a novel Horror  round, stretched the participants to the limits of their stamina through a medley, finally rounding up with an impromptu performance that scrutinized their choreography skills.

In the contention for the crown are the 16 year old svelte Gayathri, one of the youngest competitors, the supple microbiologist Sreejith who brings up the other end at 27 years , with the athletic Midh and the lissome Dilsha completing the field.

The Finale showcases their talent through a trio of rounds – the Solo that allows them to put their best foot forward by dancing to their strengths, the Duet in which they pair up as couples, and the Group where all dance in tandem.

While they execute their well choreographed steps before the throng of invited audience, watchful eyes will follow every twirl and pirouette as Kala Master and Prasanna Master continue to do duty  as permanent Jury members on the Judging Panel, with Jyothirmayi joining them as celebrity judge.

An invigorating line-up of celebrity performances from Jyothirmayi,  Shamna Kasim and a host of others will give a seasoning of spice to the event,  adding further to the flavour of competitive excitement that pervades the proceedings.

In the countdown to the Finale, as the 4 finalists practice their moves to perfection, the crowning moments of Super Dancer-2 promises to unfold into a medley of graceful excellence.

Movie Bazaar , which is  a weekly overview of the film world, leads us to the South Indian motion picture mart to offer short sketches of the filmy wares on display – just released flicks that are doing brisk business in theatres, films that are yet to be canned; those that are still on the scripting tale. Four Finalists Step Into The Grand Finale of Super Dancer-2

After minutely assessing the dancing proficiency, choreographic skills and improvisational talents of the competitors of Super Dancer-2  over many rounds, the Final Four have been selected on the joint basis the SMS votes and judges’ decisions.

As the Finalists emerge from the last eight, the picture of the final phase becomes  clear- Dilsha, Gayathri, Midh & Sreejith will take each other’s measure in the rounds to come in the three weeks prior to the Grand Finale.

The last level consists of 3 rounds : Self- choreography, Medley and Gender Change .

The dances of the previous levels had been carefully planned in accordance with the requirements of the rounds by expert individual choreographers. The Self choreography round lays bare the intrinsic dancing skills of the participants as they are required to choreograph their own steps without prior planning or professional assistance. Dressed in casual attire, the final contestants are allowed to listen to the song just once- before taking to the stage and dancing to its tune, improvising and modifying as they go along.

In the Gender Change round the competitors switch genders for a short while down to the costumes, hair style, make up and movements. The girls try out macho costumes, matching it with athletic and robust steps while the boys in skirts and long plaits become the personification of feminine grace and charm.

In the Medley Round that is designed to test the stamina, the contestants have to dance to a mix of songs that may be drawn from any language, consisting of a minimum of 3 songs with no limit to the maximum number. The song sequence which lasts for around 5 minutes should peak from slow melodies to fast rhythms, gradually increasing in pace and tempo .

After tackling the seventh and final round, the Four Finalists will pass on to the Grand Finale that falls on March 7th, where more exciting and exciting rounds await them.

Now even in God’s own country, viewers will have to pay to watch their favourite channels. As part of its bigger plans, the south India-based television broadcaster, Sun Network has recently announced that two of its free-to-air Malayalam channels will be converted to paid channels.

Kerala’s two most watched Malayalam channels, Surya TV and Kiran TV will go paid from April 01, 2010. While Surya TV is the GEC (general entertainment channel) offering; Kiran TV is the 24-hour music channel from the Sun Network stable.

The two channels, as a bouquet, will be priced at Rs 20.33 per subscriber per month in non-CAS areas; while in CAS areas, the price would be Rs 5.35 per channel per month.

“The two channels have been most viewed channels since our launch in Kerala. Up to 2007, we held the No. 1 position in the state; and in the past couple of years, we have been at the No. 2 position. This is our attempt at regaining the same position,” a company’s executive tells afaqs!.

Currently, 14-15 per cent of the overall revenue of Sun Network comes from paid channels.

“Initially, some resistance will be there; but at the end of the day, those who want to watch a channel will be willing to pay for it. So, as we go ahead with our plans, we will take the necessary measures,” says the executive.

Beginning this year, the company has also hiked the advertisement rates for its Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada channels. The increase in advertisement rates for Surya TV is up to 5 per cent, applicable on select programmes. The broadcaster is eyeing an annual revenue growth of 15-20 per cent with the ad rate hikes.

Sun TV first said that its flagship channels would become pay channels in November 2006. Since then, the broadcaster has been bringing all its channels under the paid model. Currently, of its 20 channels, only about three or four are free-to-air.

Sun TV Network is one of the largest television broadcasters in India, operating 20 satellite television channels across four languages — Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
