Radio Mango 91.9 bags three gold at the India Radio Forum “Excellence in Radio Awards”. Radio Mango’s World AIDS Day won the award in Best radio promo In-house and Best Creative Campaign categories Radio Mango’s Rj Shaan won the RJ of the year award in the Malayalam category.

The World AIDS Day campaign was a unique example of creative disruption on radio. Dec 2 was wrongly announced as World AIDS day on Dec 1st. A correction was issued the next day saying it is far easier to correct the small mistakes in life, but not those which you make when you contract HIV. Incidentally Radio Mango is the only regional network to bag more than one IRF award this year. Earlier this year, Radio Mango’s On-ground activity ‘Radio Mango Idea Bus Kerala had won a Silver at the WOW Awards 2011 for rural marketing program of the year.

Radio Mango’s award winning on-ground music reality show Radio Mango – IdeaNattile Tharam, into its third edition this year, brought in an exciting innovation over the past episodes – a flying studio set in a helicopter.

After the mobile recording studio, Pattuvandi and the sailing studio, Pattuvanchi, the Pattuthumbi (so named by listeners via a Facebook contest because of the helicopter’s similarity to a dragon fly ) alighted upon the hilly high ranges of Idukki district’s Munnar & Kattapana regions , reaching out to aspiring singers from that region. A day was kept aside for Kochities for a feel of helicopter audition. With this unique feature Radio Mango Idea Nattile Tharam 3 now covers the entire state by road, water and air. In this edition at least 20,000 participants from the 14 districts of Kerala are expected to try their luck in winning the title of ‘Nattile Tharam’. The show reaches out to 18 lakh people across 111 touch points over a two-month period. The Winner of Nattile Tharam title would get a chance to sing for a Malayalam movie by a renowned movie director and one of Kerala’s popular Music composer.

Radio Mango 91.9 has kicked off third edition of its on-ground mobile music reality show, Radio Mango Idea Nattile Tharam on Sunday. In its first two editions, Nattile Tharam had found a place in the Limca Book of Records twice for its unique on-ground format and had won awards at a national level as well. Over the last two years, the event’s unique mobile recording studios garnered much addition and last year’s innovation included a mobile recording boat in order to reach people who live by Kerala’s waterways.

This year, Nattile Tharam 3 is back with yet another twist – recording studios will now ply road, water, and air – by means of a helicopter in order to reach participants in this high range. This one-of-a-kind feature gives Nattile Tharam 3 the opportunity to reach throughout the state. Nattile Tharam 3 will audition at least 20,000 participants and will cover all 14 districts in Kerala with 111 touch points reaching up to 18 lakh people.

World Cup 1983 – Radio Mango Relives The Magic Live

Radio Mango kicks off the World Cup with a unique initiative. The 18th of February will be celebrated as a tribute to India’s 1983 World Cup Triumph. Tune into Radio Mango on the 18th, and be transported to 25th June 1983. Everything on air will reflect that historic saturday – the day’s news, traffic updates, gold prices, commodity prices, the hit songs at the time, and of course that sense of anticipation as we approach 1630hrs, the start of the India – West Indies final at Indian Standard Time. At 1630, we start giving regular updates from the “television” in the studio. Remember very few homes in India had television during that time, and over 90% of the population had to depend on radio.

Most of the network’s target audience would have not been born or would have been too young to remember. This provides them a unique opportunity to relive that day, exactly the way it happened. Celebs will give interviews as if it they were speaking on 25th June, 1983. Ex mayors, ex commisioners, ex collectors will be on air wishing the team all the best as if they still held those positions.

Radio Mango presents NON – CENSUS 2010, a witty take on our Indian census – showcasing the answers to questions I really want to know. Listeners are asked to send in such irreverently ‘relevant’ questions via SMS short code platform. After short-listing the best 10 questions, an actual ‘census’ will be conducted by Radio Mango to find out the answers to these questions, via a research company.

The Census Report will be published/broadcast with a ‘Conditions Apply’ tag saying “Results may vary slightly from actual results” typical of the Indian Census.

This one-of-a-kind feature gives Nattile Tharam 2 the opportunity to reach lakhs of people who live by Kerala’s waterways. Nattile Tharam 2 will audition at least 20,000 participants and will cover all 14 districts in Kerala with 115 touch points reaching up to 18 lakh people.

Radio Mango’s long-running Battle of Sexes quiz on their Breakfast Show took a new perspective yesterday with its two participants from the same gender to acknowledge the historic ruling by the Delhi High Court on Section 377. The usual pitched battle of wits between husband and wife featured instead two young men, Murali and Surya.

“This was a understated way to acknowledge a much needed yet controversial judgment in a conservative listener environment as ours,” said Arjun Madhusudan, Creative Director.

Radio Mango91.9 concludes its big ticket on-air activity Radio Mango – Vodafone “Reverse Quiz”. Reverse Quiz is a first of its kind contest organised on-air. As the name says it’s a reverse format of a normal quiz. The RJ gives an answer on-air and the listener has to frame the correct question for the answer.

Reverse Quiz is organised by radio mango in association with Vodafone in Kannur ,Thrissur,Calicut & Kochi. The total prize money for the event was over 5 lakhs in cash plus over 600 cell phones. The contest was for a month . It was benchmarked at the top of the hour every hour from 8am to 8pm and has proved a fantastic cume building exercise for the network. “We at Radio Mango have always believed in innovative programming. Reverse quiz is a twist to the usual quiz format with the listener having to frame a question to the answer provided. Pioneering FM revolution in Kerala, Radio Mango 91.9 today launched “Traffic Infoline” in association with Kochi city police. This joint initiative is designed to help the commuters of Kochi get real time traffic- related information while on the move. Public can now call 3 easy-to-remember numbers – 3113141, 3113151, 3113161 and inform the traffic police or Radio Mango studio about any traffic related issues they face while traveling within the city. Based on the information received from the public, police will try to provide timely solutions which will subsequently be aired on Radio Mango. Reliance Communications supported the initiative by providing the entire back-end solutions. Traffic Infoline was inaugurated by Mr.Vinson M. Paul, Inspector General of Police. The function was attended by Mr.Manoj Abraham, Commissioner of Police, Mr.T. Vikram, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Mr.Cherian Peter, Circle Head – Reliance Communications and various other officials from police, Reliance and the media.Announcing the launch of Traffic Infoline, Mr. Vinson M Paul, Inspector General of Police said, “The city police is extremely delighted to associate with Radio Mango for this highly beneficial venture. We have always been committed to public service. This initiative is a great opportunity for the city police to bring its services closer to the public. I request Kochiites to participate and make the best use of this service.”
