Asianet Communications Ltd (ACL) has appointed senior journalist and icon of modern visual media, John Brittas as Business Head. ACL runs two entertainment channels – Asianet and Asianet Plus.

The eventful career of John Brittas, who hailed from a small village of Kannur, commenced when he joined ‘Deshabhimani’ after his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Trissur Kerala Verma College. Later he grabbed his Masters from the same college being the topper. At the age of 22 he went to Delhi and joined JNU for M.Phil and later Ph.D. ‘Deshabhimani’ was considerate enough to transfer him to Delhi as its bureau chief. There, even before joining his office, he got an assignment to escort the then Chief Minister of Kerala to Punjab for a discussion with the “Akalis”, a radical group beseeching a separate state. He witnessed many incidents at the capital that designed India’s future both at the home front and in the international arena. Brittas has done first-hand reporting for the general elections between 1981 and 1999. He also covered the general election in Nepal soon after the tragic death of King Birendra. He was physically present in Ayodhya during the Babri Masjid demolition.Brittas became the first journalist from India to reach Baghdad during the Iraq war. He is the youngest correspondent to get the Central Hall pass in the Parliament.

Mammootty; The best actor award 2011 Grand finale   was held recently at Dubai.The show was witnessed by  20,000 strong crowd. Luminaries from the Malayalam and Tamil film industry turned out in force to celebrate the mega event conducted at Festival City, Dubai.

Mega Star Mammootty, K.Madhavan, Managing Director,Asianet  Communications Ltd,, Dilip, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathi Sreekumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Harisree Ashokan, Jagadeesh, director Ranjith, Cameraman Venu, Revathy, Padmapriya, Mamtha Mohandas, Kalpana, Remya Nambeesan, Meera Nandan  are some of the personalities who attend the function.

Malavika from Dubai was declared winner of  Mammootty;the best actor award 2011,an unique reality show conducted by Asianet, in search of budding talents. Rajeesh Lal from  Thiruvananthapuram is the first runner-up, Krishna Priya from  Thiruvananthapuram was declared second runner-up & last but not the least, Sreekumar from  Thrissur secured the third runners-up spot in the grand  finale held  at Dubai..
Mammootty the best actor award winner Malavika received Rs.5 lakhs sponsored by Confident groups, first runner-up  Rajeesh Lal received Rs.2lakhs.

Other cine Stars such as Padmapriya, Mamtha Mohandas, Kalpana, Remya Nambeesan, Meera Nandan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Harisree Ashokan, ,Nadirsha,  Tini Tom, and Kalabhan Mani,Playback Singers in the lines of  Karthik, Swetha Menon, Pradeep Paluuritthy entertained the viewers numbering in  thousands.

Swarna Thomas lived up to her name to become the golden girl of the Grand Finale in Amrita TV’s Super Dancer Junior-2, which will be telecast on April 9th at 7.00pm.

Keeping her date with history, Swarna edged past more accomplished and determined competitors to pluck the title and the gilded purse of Rs.5 lakhs . Malavika, came in a close second, while Shifana made the cut to earn the third position and Chithu was adjudged fourth in the ranking—each one earning in lakhs by way of prize money. The jury panel included the dancing divas, Sudha Chandran and Kala Master complemented by acclaimed film director ,Shyamaprasad.

Swarna, the dark horse in the fray, beat the odds to dash down the homestrip ahead of the field by a nose, to become the first past the post.

She was one of the few participants who grew as a contestant as the competition forged ahead, bettering herself with every outing, notching up some perfect 30’s along the way- most notably in the Horror Round, Challenging Styles Round, Festival Round – to peak perfectly in the ultimate stage.

The Finale probed the fine steel of the foursome’s caliber with 3 rounds- the Solo, Pair and Group Round. The fever pitched performances were studded with some tantalizing numbers from film starlet Vishnupriya, Anna the winner of Super Dancer Junior-1 , Sajina & Group, rollicking songs from playback singer Suchitra Kartik.

In a cricketesque conclusion where past laurels don’t t carry any weight and only the present moment counts , Swarna delivered the goods when it mattered most and pocketed the fee.

It was a fairy tale finish to a 7 month long effort for the beauty from Bombay which showed that reality shows can spring as many surprises as one day cricket.

When the dust has settled and the euphoria and elation has given way to the daily drudgery of lessons and exams, Swarna will hopefully treasure the fact that it was her native soil that opened up the gateway to stardom to her.
