It was in 2006, soon after Amrita TV was launched, that Malayalam television saw the telecast of a unique cookery show, Taste of Kerala, which pioneered a shift of cookery shows from studios/sets to homes, dwellings and eatery houses across Kerala . From July 22, Amrita TV launches Taste of Kerala in a new avatar, every Sunday at 12.30 pm.
The show is anchored by Reena Basheer, who was one of the finalists of Vanita Ratnam, Amrita’s pathbreaking reality show for young mothers ,and subsequently shot to fame for her roles in Malayalam films like Mulla,Violin,Ghost House. The new season of Taste of Kerala, is a journey to exotic and unseen locations in Kerala, especially Resorts, and attempts to capture not just the cooking flavours of a particular location, but integrate it with its landscape,life style,festivals and culture . The link between ethos and cuisine is brought out in a visual treat which combines the wonderful panorama of the outdoors with the lovely aroma of the dishes being cooked.
In the first episode on July 22 ,Reena Basheer travels to Misty Mountain Plantation Resort,located at an altitude of 3500 feet above sea level at Kuttukanam in the hilly Idukki district. Theproperty which was once owned by the Travancore Royal family is a pleasant spot to unveil dishes galore in the midst of gardens of coffee,cardamom,pepper,vanilla plantation and thick tropical vegetation.
The next episode on July 29 takes you to Kumbalangi Tourism Village in Ernakulam,which is the first Model Tourism Village in India blessed with vast stretches of backwaters and a network of water bodies, flowing into the Arabian Sea—and is home to the famous ‘’Pokkali’’ organic rice.
Taste of Kerala, to be aired every Sunday at 12.30 pm, promises to be cookery spectacle which will appeal to the entire family.
