Pakal Nakshatrangal tells the story of Siddharthan, a filmmaker who prefers to have his own way of life and his own kind of principles, which are shocking to many. He is someone who leads a Casanova kind of life, with many women being there in his life. There happens to be some kind of a mystery surrounding his death and his son Adi takes it upon himself to unravel this mystery and write a book on the life and death of his father. Mohanlal plays Siddharthan and Anoop Menon plays Adi. Also in a key role is Suresh Gopi, in the role of Vaidhyanath, a psychiatrist who converses with dead souls.
